Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 1114
1849-O Open Wreath. NGC graded AU-58. A somewhat granular look to Liberty, perhaps from die rust, the surrounding field is choice, as is the reverse, where the light luster shows most everywhere. The lower half of the date is somewhat weak. Since portions of the wreath and bow are missing, this may point to die relapping at the mint in order to remove clash marks, a common occurrence. First year issue. New Orleans struck the gold dollar denomination every year from 1849 to 1855, and then never again (PCGS # 7508) .
Estimated Value $350 - 375.
The Arden Collection.
